The hottest team on the Cape kept it going against Chatham Saturday as the Falmouth Commodores defeated the A's 3-1 at Guv Fuller Field in Falmouth.
Falmouth has now won five in a row and eight of its last 11.
Christian Friedrich (Eastern Kentucky) made his third start of the year against the A's and he was magnificent. Friedrich scattered five hits over six innings, allowing one run while walking three and striking out six. His lone slipup came in the third when Sean O'Brien (Virginia Tech) scored on an Andrew Crisp (South Carolina) RBI single in the second.
The Commodores got on Chatham starter Cliff Springston (Arkansas) early with a run in the first. David Adams (Virginia) doubled with one out and Matt Hague (Washington) tripled to drive him in. Springston stranded Hague on third with a fly out off the bat of Jeremy Farrell (Virginia).
After Chatham tied the score with its run in the second, Falmouth took the lead for good in the third on a Connor Gillaspie (Wichita State) two-run homerun. The blast was Gillaspie's third of the summer.
Gillaspie also tripled and scored in the eighth. Hague drove him in with a sacrifice fly to stretch the Commodore lead to 4-1.
Brett Graffy (Notre Dame) pitched a scoreless eighth for Falmouth and Luke Burnett (Louisiana Tech) closed it out for his second save of the season.
Chatham returns home to face division rival Orleans Sunday night at 7pm. Tom Millone (USC) will face a Cardinal lineup he has already pitched against twice. Eric Surkamp (N.C. State) goes for Orleans.
