Allan Dykstra is the first Chatham A's player chosen in this year's draft. The left handed slugger is the 23rd overall selection, the first pick of his hometown San Diego Padres. The Wake Forest first baseman was among the nation's leaders in walks this season (63) and the team leader in average (.323), RBIs (50) and homers(16). He was also named to the ACC All-Tournament team.
Dykstra played two full summers with the A's in 2006 and '07, appearing in 82 games. He led the CCBL in RBIs in '06 (29). He did even better in 2007 with 31 RBIs. His .308 batting average was 76 points higher than a year earlier. He hit 12 home runs in his Cape League career and was an All-Star in 2007.
