Meeting for the third consecutive Wednesday, the A's and Y-D Red Sox turned in one of the more exciting games of the season, resulting in a 6-4 win for the Sox. Sammy Solis started against Y-D for the third consecutive week, one week after Scott Pickler's team handed Solis his first loss of the season. The Sox took an early lead, as catcher Tony Sanchez led off the second inning with a home run to left. Tyler Marmion also went deep in the inning, his homer to left put the Sox in front 3-0.

The lead grew by a run the following inning, as the Sox added an unearned run. After Nick Liles reached on a Grant Green throwing error, he came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Ryan Ortiz. Chatham entered the fourth inning down by four runs, and still in search of their first hit off of Sox hurler Jerry Sulivan. With two out and the bases empty, Kyle Bellows put the A's on the board with a home run to left field, his first of the season.

The game stayed close thanks to solid Chatham pitching in the bottom of the sixth. The Red Sox began the inning with a Sanchez single and a double from Ryan Ortiz. After DeAngelo Mack grounded out to second, John Schiffner opted to intentionally walk Mike Belfiore, and then go to his bullpen. With the bases loaded, he summoned Joe Serafin, who struck out Tyler Marmion and got Whit Merrifield to ground to third, ending the inning.

Buoyed heading into the top of the seventh, the A's drew closer. Victor Sanchez homered to left, his third on the season, which set the stage for a double from Gabe Cohen. Cohen moved to third as Gregg Glime grounded out to second. Scott Pickler then went to his bullpen, bringing DH Mike Belfiore to the pitchers mound. The lefty walked the only batter he faced in Corey Overholtzer, before being lifted for sidearming righthander Rhett Ballard. The first batter Ballard faced was Grant Green, who hit a ball down the left field line. Cohen scored, but Corey Overholtzer was thrown out at the plate attempting to tie the game.

The A's would manage to tie the game in the eighth. Cory Olson led the inning off by ground back to the mound. Rhett Ballard's throw to first sailed wide and out of play, moving Olson to second. He took third on Kyle Seager's groundout, allowing him to score on a single from Yan Gomes.

Chatham had come all the way back, but Y-D awoke in the bottom of the eighth. Joe Serafin hit Tony Sanchez, the leadoff man, on a 1-2 curveball. He was bunted to second by Ryan Ortiz, and removed for pinch runner Tom Belza. DeAngelo Mack singled to right. With two on, Joe Serafin intentionally walked pinch hitter Sean Ochinko. Brad Boxberger was called from the bullpen to try to recreate what Serafin did two innings prior.

Tyler Marmion came to the plate, having already accounted for two runs with his two run home run in the second. He fouled off several 1-2 pitches before launching a base hit that scored both Belza and Mack, and giving the Red Sox a 6-4 lead. Boxberger escaped the bases loaded jam without further damage, as the two runs were charged to Serafin. In the A's ninth, Victor Sanchez struck out. Gabe Cohen came to the plate, and during a bunt attempt, fouled a ball off of his face. The game was delayed while Cohen was attended to, and when it resumed, he was replaced by pinch hitter Evan Ocheltree, who struck out. Gregg Glime then hit a roller to shortstop that ended the game, and gave Y-D a 6-4 win.

The loss brings the A's record to 13-15, while Y-D improves to 10-16-1. Joe Serafin was the loser in his first decision of the year, while Rhett Ballard recorded his first win, and Joe Kelly picked up the save. Chatham will return to Veterans Field Thursday for a 7 PM start with the Harwich Mariners. Justin Marks will make the start, as the A's look for revenge of their 4-3 loss to the Mariners a week ago.
