A Marathon Home Stretch

Out of the ten teams in the Cape Cod League, only the Wareham Gatemen have been eliminated from playoff contention, while only the Orleans Cardinals have secured a playoff berth. That means the season's final week is wide open, and the Chatham A's are right in the thick of things. A disadvantage for Chatham is that due to poor weather, they will play more games than any other team; six in the season's final four days. The first big day comes on Monday, as the A's take on the Harwich Mariners at 2 PM before hosting the Cotuit Kettleers at 7. The Harwich affair is a makeup of Thursday night's fog-halted game, while the game against Cotuit is a makeup of a rainout from July 24.
The game with Harwich has added significance, as the Mariners enter the game holding the final playoff spot in the Eastern Division. Their forty points puts them four ahead of Chatham, and three ahead of the Y-D Red Sox. Their point total is the same as the Brewster Whitecaps, but Harwich has a game in hand over the Whitecaps. Chatham will meet Brewster on Wednesday at Veterans Field, after traveling to McKeon Park in Hyannis on Tuesday.
If the A's are still in contention on the season's final day, Thursday should be a memorable day. The A's will embark to Wareham to meet the Gatemen at 1:00 in a makeup of Saturday's rainout. That evening, the regular season will come to an end at Eldredge Park, as they meet the Orleans Cardinals at 7. Live audio broadcasts of all games begins with the A's Extra Pregame Show, 20 minutes before the first pitch.
