Anglers Clinch Playoff Berth!
With Monday night's 5-4 victory over Harwich, combined with losses from Falmouth and Brewster, the Chatham Anglers have clinched a spot in the 2009 Cape League Postseason and third place in the East Division. The Y-D Redsox have clinched the East Division regular season championship by virtue of their 3-0 shutout of Falmouth and the Orleans Firebirds sealed second place with a 6-5 extra-inning win against Hyannis. Brewster and Harwich cannot advance to the postseason.

Chatham will likely face off with Orleans in the next three contests, including a home-and-home series to round out the regular season: Tuesday in Orleans and Wednesday in Chatham. After a day off, the clubs may reconvene Friday night at Eldredge Park for a one-game playoff, the inaugural Cape League wild card round. However, because of the new playoff format, it's possible reseeding could pin Chatham against a West Division team.

In the West Division, Bourne, Cotuit and Wareham have all clinched postseason appearances, but the order of finish hasn't been determined. Bourne swept a double header from Brewster Monday, putting the Braves on top of the West with 48 points, while Cotuit (45 points) and Wareham (44 points) were both idle. All three clubs have two games remaining, but one Bourne win would clinch the division title. The only head-to-head matchup among the clubs is Wednesday night with Bourne visiting Wareham, a game that could decide the West's regular season champion. Falmouth and Hyannis will miss the playoffs.
