Playoffs Begin Tonight!
The first round of the 2009 Cape League Playoffs gets underway for Chatham at 7:00, as the Anglers visit the Orleans Firebirds in a single elimination first round game. Chatham qualified for the playoffs as the sixth seed, finishing the regular season at 21-23. Orleans finished in second place in the Eastern Division with a 25-21 record. The last two regular season wins for the Firebirds came at the expense of Chatham, as Orleans triumphed at Eldredge Park 5-1 on Tuesday, and 3-2 at Veterans Field on Wednesday.

Freshman righthander Logan Verrett from Baylor (2-0,3.09) will start for Chatham against RHP Casey Gaynor of Rutgers. Gaynor, a Cape League All Star, is 2-1 with a 1.74 ERA. Orleans has played the final two weeks of the regular season without Alex Hassan, a versatile outfielder and pitcher, who signed with the Boston Red Sox on July 30. In four games against Chatham, the Duke Blue Devil had six hits in fifteen at bats.

A Chatham win would send the Anglers to the Eastern Division Championship Series against the Y-D Red Sox on Saturday. Full coverage of Friday's game begins at 6:30 with a special playoff edition of the Anglers Extra Pregame Show. Join broadcasters Brian Clark and Scott Braun as they speak with Anglers manager John Schiffner and Firebirds skipper Kelly Nicholson, along with a player guest.
