Red Sox Score Two in Eighth to Send Anglers to Eighth Straight Defeat
The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Anglers 3-1 at Red Wilson Field. It was the eighth straight loss for the Anglers who fell to 12-18-1 on the season and the fourth time during the skid they've fallen to Yarmouth-Dennis. The Anglers remain three points out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Division as Orleans lost at Brewster.

Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth, Chatham reliever Phil Schreiber (Iowa) walked two consecutive batters with one out before being relieved by Zack Jones (San Jose State). After inducing a fly out, Jones gave up a run-scoring single to pinch-hitter Matt Watson (Boston College), putting Yarmouth-Dennis up 2-1. With runners on first and third, the Red Sox were able to grab an insurance run when a Jones pitch bounced in the dirt and got away from catcher Joe Pavone (Connectciut), allowing Stewart Ijames (Louisville) to score from third base.

The teams played five scoreless innings before the Anglers opened the scoring in the top of the sixth inning. Rick Oropesa (USC) led off the inning with a solo home run to right field off of Yarmouth-Dennis starter Tanner Poppe (Kansas). It was the only run Poppe would allow as he went six innings, allowing only three hits and three walks while striking out five. It wouldn't take long for the Red Sox to even the score as they got to Chatham starter Marc Zecchino (Virginia Tech) in the bottom of the sixth. Danny Muno (Fresno State) led off the inning with a single and took second base on a sacrifice bunt. After a ground out, Joe Panik (St. John's) singled to right field, scoring Muno to tie the game. Zecchino was sharp, going seven innings, giving up five hits while striking out five of his own.

The Anglers are off on Wednesday but return home to Veterans Field Thursday night, welcoming the Brewster Whitecaps to town. First pitch is scheduled for 7pm, with the broadcast beginning at 6:40pm with the Anglers Extra Pregame Show.
