Anglers Fall to Gatemen 6-1, Drop Second Game on Sunday
The Anglers lost the second of two games on Sunday, falling to the Wareham Gatemen 6-1 at Spillane Field. The Anglers lost earlier in the day to the Falmouth Commodores 6-2 and their record now stands at 18-21-1, fifth in the Eastern Division. The Anglers' 37 points are four behind Harwich's 41 for the final playoff spot with just four games remaining in the regular season.

The Gatemen got on the board against Chatham starter Chris Munnelly (UNC) in the bottom of the first. With one out, Jonathan Smith (Tennessee-Wesleyan) singled up the middle, one of his three hits on the evening. Zach Wilson (Arizona State) followed a two-run home run to left field to give Wareham a 2-0 lead after an inning.

The Gatemen added a run in the bottom of the second to go ahead 3-0. Jerrud Sabourin (Indiana) singled to left field with one out and advanced to second when left fielder Jason Martin (San Jose State) misplayed the ball. Adam McClain (Memphis) would then single up the middle with two outs to score Sabourin for the three run lead. McClain would steal second base and try to score on a single by Tony Caldwell (Auburn) but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning on a good relay by right fielder Beau Amaral (UCLA), first baseman Aaron Wastlake (Vanderbilt) and catcher Phil Pohl (Clemson).

Munnelly would settle down, eventually going six innings giving up just two earned runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out five batters. Munnelly's record falls to 0-1 on the season with an ERA of just 1.71.

The Anglers would score a run in the top of the fifth inning as Riley Reynolds (Vanderbilt) singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, to third on a fly out by Jason Martin (San Jose State) and scored on another wild pitch by Wareham starter Jack Armstrong (Vanderbilt). Armstrong picked up his fourth win on the season, going six innings allowing just five hits and two walks while striking out seven batters.

Wareham would score three more runs in the bottom of the seventh off of Chatham reliever Phil Schreiber (Iowa). With two runners on and two outs, Max Muncy (Baylor) reached on an error by Westlake to load the bases. Nico Rosthenhausler (Oklahoma State) walked to score Caldwell from third base with Wareham's fourth run of the night. Jake Davies (Georgia Tech) followed with a single to shortstop which drove in two runs to make it 6-1 in favor of the Gatemen. All three runs in the inning were unearned for Schreiber due to the two-out error.

The Anglers return to Veterans Field Monday night with a 7pm scheduled start against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox.
