On Tuesday, the Chatham Anglers (17-19-1) will head to Red Wilson Field to take on the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (20-17) at 5 p.m. With seven games remaining in the regular season, Chatham holds a six point advantage over the Brewster Whitecaps for the fourth and final playoff spot in the East Division. Despite being 4-6 in their last 10 games, the Red Sox have 40 points on the season and are just four points away from first place.
The Anglers fell 3-2 on Monday evening to the Cotuit Kettleers at Lowell Park. After rallying from a 2-1 deficit in the eighth inning, Chatham's comeback bid fell just short when Cotuit plated the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Franklin Pierce's
Ryan Thompson (1-2, 2.60 ERA) was given the loss (0.1IP, 1H, 1ER, 0BB, 0K). The Anglers received key contributions from San Diego's
Louie Lechich, who tallied two hits and Maine's
Alex Calbick and California's
Andrew Knapp, who both tallied RBI. Calbick's RBI came on a solo home run in the fifth while Knapp's came on a single in the eighth. With the RBI single, Knapp has 20 RBI on the season, the highest total for any active Chatham player.
In the lineup as a designated hitter on Monday, Lechich (1-1, 3.08 ERA) will make his fifth start of the season for Chatham. Lechich received a no-decision in his last start against Y-D on July 25 (5.2IP, 4R, 1ER, 4H, 0BB, 4K). In 26.2 innings pitched this summer, Lechich has 26 strikeouts and has issued only five walks.
Florida Gulf Coast's
Rick Knapp (1-0, 2.41 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Red Sox. In his last outing on July 22 against Orleans, the right-hander got a no-decision (6IP, 6H, 4R, 2ER, 0BB, 5K). Knapp has faced Chatham twice this season, earning a win on July 8 (4IP, 2R, 1ER, 4H, 1BB, 1K) and a no-decision on June 22 (5IP, 2R, 0ER, 4H, 2BB, 4K).
