On Saturday, Chatham (18-20-2) will make its final trip of the season to Wareham to take on the Gatemen (17-23) at 7 p.m. With four games remaining in the regular season, the Anglers have a seven point advantage over the Brewster Whitecaps for the East Division's fourth and final playoff spot. In three games this summer, Chatham has a 1-2 record against Wareham, winning 7-5 on June 14, losing 10-6 on July 16 and falling 6-2 on July 29.
Franklin Pierce's
Ryan Thompson (1-2, 2.60 ERA) will make his sixth start of the season for the Anglers. Thompson received a loss in his last appearance in Cotuit on July 30 (0.1IP, 1H, 1ER, 0BB, 0K), a bullpen session to keep him fresh in between starts. In 27.2 innings pitched this summer, Thompson has never given up more than three earned runs in a game.
Richmond's
Dylan Stoops (0-0, 0.00 ERA) is slated to start for the Gatemen. A recent pickup from the Valley Baseball League, Stoops has yet to make an appearance for the Gatemen, who are engaged in a battle for the final two playoff spots in the West Division with Bourne and Hyannis.
On Saturday, a Chatham win or a Brewster loss will clinch a playoff berth for the Anglers. The Anglers came one step closer to the postseason on Friday night, tying Harwich 8-8 at Whitehouse Field. Chatham received clutch performances from Maine's
Mike Fransoso, who went 2 for 6 with 3 RBI, Virginia Tech's
Chad Morgan, who went 3 for 5 with an RBI single and Boston College's
Eric Stevens, who tossed three scoreless innings of relief.
