Regionals in Review
College baseball regional action ended early Tuesday morning, and 13 Anglers from four different teams are moving on to the Super Regionals. Many Anglers played a big role in their teams' success.

Landon Lassiter ('13) was key in helping top-seeded North Carolina win their region. He started all four games, collecting nine hits in his 20 at-bats, scoring five runs, and driving in one. In the Regional Championship, Lassiter helped propel the Tar Heels to victory with four hits and 3 runs scored.

Chad Pinder (Chatham '12) hit his eighth home
run of the year in regional play
Michael Russell ('13) was also important to the Tar Heels' success, going 6-for-14 at the plate with 5 RBIs in the four games. Chris McCue ('13), Tate Parrish ('12), Matt Roberts ('11) and Chris Munnelly ('11) also contributed and will be headed to a Super Regional matchup against rival South Carolina.

The Louisville Cardinals dominated their regional bracket with some help from Anglers players. Adam Engel ('12) went 2-10 with 3 RBIs, Nick Burdi ('12) struck out three in two innings of relief, and Dace Kime ('11-12) started the Regional Championship game and gave up two earned-runs over 4.2 innings pitched.

Kyle Funkhouser ('13) and Alex Chittenden ('12) will also join the Cardinals as they take on Vanderbilt in the Super Regionals.

J.D. Davis ('13) helped Cal State Fullerton sweep through their regional, going 4-11 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Pat Valaika ('12) started all three games and helped UCLA breeze through their regional, collecting two hits and three RBIs. Connor Joe ('13) went 4-for-14 and Louie Lechich (12) only gave up 2 earned runs in four innings pitched for San Diego, but the Torreros would lose the first game of the Regional Championship to UCLA.

Kris Bryant ('11) also played for the Torreros in Regional competition. He is expected to be a top-5 pick in the upcoming MLB draft.

Virginia Tech was eliminated by Oklahoma in their Regional Championship, despite the efforts of Chad Pinder ('12), Chad Morgan ('12) and Jake Joyce ('12). Pinder blasted a home run against Coastal Carolina, and Joyce gave up one earned run and struck out four in his four innings of relief.

Although his team was eliminated in the Regional Championship, Buck Farmer ('11) continued his impressive senior season, starting two games and only allowing two earned runs and striking out 10 in 10 innings pitched.

The Super Regionals begin on Friday.
