Chatham enters the 2013 Cape League regular season tonight against defending champion Wareham. The Anglers are looking to make their second playoff appearance in as many years.
John Schiffner starts his 21st season at the helm by handing the ball to Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Year
Andrew McGee (Monmouth). The Southpaw finished his junior campaign with an 8-2 record and 2.12 ERA including with seven complete games.
McGee will be backed up a talented group of players from all over the country. Infielder/Catcher Brandon Sedell (Nova Southeastern) comes to Chatham after hitting .333 with 45 RBIs for the Sharks. The All-Sunshine State Conference first teamer is joined by Jimmy Pickens (Michigan State) who hit .303 for the Spartans with nine home runs
Wareham counters with left-hander Sean Newcomb (Hartford). Newcomb is from nearby Middleboro, Massachusetts and is starting his second summer with the Gatemen. Last year, he had a 7.36 ERA in five appearances for Wareham.
The Gatemen have ten players on their roster still participating in the College World Series, but they will still have some talent on the field Wednesday night at Spillane Field. Freshman infielder Mikey White (Alabama) hit .287 and drove in 30 runs for the Razorbacks this year. He was drated in the 34th round by the New York Mets out of high school in 2012.
