For the fourth game in a row, the Anglers were dealt a loss, this time in discouraging fashion, as Chatham fell to rival Orleans 6-5 on Sunday night at Veterans field.

"A loss like this is discouraging, but we finally had some good things to take away from it," Coach John Schiffner said. "Tonight was a battle, unfortunately we didn't win, but we kept at it."

Orleans struck first and took the lead in the third inning on an RBI single from left-fielder Jordan Luplow (Fresno State), then the Firebirds added three more runs in the sixth inning with the help of two bases-loaded walks and a wild pitch from Chatham pitching.

Game 5: Chatham 5, Orleans 6

With the way the offense had been producing during the losing streak, it seemed like the game was out of reach already for the Anglers. As the seventh inning stretch commenced, Chatham fans started to file out and head home.

The Anglers found themselves down 5-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but as the famed Chatham fog rolled in, the Angler bats finally awoke.

"We got some hits together, and finally scored some runs," Mitchell Gunsolus (Gonzaga) said. "We haven't been scoring lately, but seeing guys cross the plate definitely helps build momentum."

Chatham got on the board with their first run of the game, and only their second run in 33 innings, on a bases-loaded walk to A.J. Murray (Georgia Tech). The Anglers continued to chip away with the bases loaded on a pinch-hit two-RBI single from Erich Weiss (Texas), and would tie the game at five on a clutch two-out, two-RBI single from Gunsolus.

Gunsolus collected three hits on the night with two RBI and one walk. He is currently leading the team in hitting with a .406 batting average.

"He is a gamer. He is really a throwback baseball player," Schiffner said. "He does whatever we ask him to do, and hopefully we will ride off of his success a little."

After a scoreless inning of relief from Ryan Leach (Franklin Pierce), it looked like the Anglers momentum had carried over into the eighth inning, as Chatham had the bases loaded with one out. Orleans was able to escape the jam, and the game headed into the ninth inning tied.

Things finally seemed to be going the Anglers' way, but the momentum quickly turned back in Orleans' favor after a 9th inning solo-home run from Firebird first-baseman Chris Marconcini (Duke) put Orleans up for good, and the Anglers fell 6-5.

"We finally got into a rhythm, rallied to tie the game, but unfortunately we came up a little short tonight," Sheehan Planas-Arteaga (Barry) said.

Andrew Chin (Boston College) was solid in his second start of the season, giving up seven hits and four runs in 5.2 Innings pitched. Chad Sobotka (South Carolina- Upstate) was handed the loss after giving Orleans the lead in the ninth inning.

Infielder/pitcher J.D. Davis (Cal State Fullerton) made his debut for the Anglers, drawing a walk in a pinch-hit appearance in the eighth inning. Davis arrived in Chatham early Sunday morning after travelling overnight from California.

Despite the current four-game losing streak that the Anglers are enduring, the team is not panicking, and is looking forward to Mondays game at Cotuit.

"I think the team is still feeling loose," Planas-Arteaga said. "It's the Cape League, you are going to face great competition each day, and we will be ready to win tomorrow."
