2013 Team Awards

2013 Team Awards
Prior to Chatham's final home game of the 2013 Cape League season, the Anglers gave out their annual team awards. Each award is named after an important figure in the history of the Chatham Athletic Association.

Matt Fincher Coaches Award

The Matt Fincher Coaches Award is named after long-time former assistant coach Matt Fincher who appreciated players who worked hard, played hard and loved the game. His number 29 is retired in Chatham.

2013 Recipient: Jimmy Pickens (Michigan State)

George Greer Clutch Hitter Award

The George Greer Clutch Hitter Award is named for CCBL Hall of Fame inductee and former Chatham A George Greer. Greer is currently an assistant with the New York Mets' Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas.He made a career out of getting clutch hits.

Eddie Lyons Grinder of the Year Award

The Eddie Lyons Grinder of the Year Award is named for Cape League Hall of Fame inductee and former Chatham A's coach Eddie Lyons. He appreciated players who "grind" any way they can to help the team win a game.

2013 Recipient: Mitch Gunsolus (Gonzaga)

Walter Terrell Most Valuable Pitcher Award

The Walter Terrell Most Valuable Pitcher Award is named for the Cape League Hall of Famer and former Chatham A who expemplified what a most valuable pitcher is. In 1979, he pitched 122 innings, won nine games and had five saves.

2013 Recipient: Tommy Lawrence (Maine)

Ed Baird Most Outstanding Pitcher Award

The Ed Baird Most outstanding Pitcher Award is named after the team's current tresurer. Ed Baird is a Cape League Hall of Famer who pitched three summers in Chatham, including on the 1967 championship team. Ed's 0.45 ERA in 1965 is still a team record.

Willard Nicholas Most Outstanding Player Award

The Willard Nicholas Most Outstanding Player Award is named for a person who selflessly volunteered his time to help maintain the franchise when it needed him the most. To those who knew him well, he was Nick the Barber.It is fitting to name the Most Outstanding Player Award after this most outstanding person.

2013 Recipients: Connor Joe (San Diego) and Dante Flores (Southern California).
