5 Anglers named to East Division All-Star team

Jordan Hillyer (Kennesaw State), A.J. Murray (Georgia Tech), Kyle Davis (Southern California), Ty Moore (UCLA) and Nick Collins (Georgetown) have all been selected to the East Division All-Star team. Hillyer and Murray have been chosen as starters, Davis to come out of the bullpen and Moore and Collins as reserves. Chris Shaw (Boston College) will also compete in the Home Run Derby.

"It's a tremendous honor to be named to this team," said Murray at Saturday batting practice. "Especially in this league with all of these great players."

The Cape Cod League All Star game, which will pit the East’s talent against the Western Division’s, will be played at Bourne’s Doran Park at 6 p.m. on July 27.

As far as the five Chatham players go, the game is a representation of the success they’ve had this season. Hillyer has been dominant in five starts — most recently a 4-2 win over Brewster on Friday — with a 4-0 record and 1.00 ERA. He has throw at least five innings in all of his appearances, and hasn’t given up more than one run in any outing. Murray’s five home runs and 26 RBIs lead the league, and is .333 average is tied with Collins for the team lead. Moore is hitting .284 with two home runs and 19 RBIs, and has showed off his glove and arm in left field. And Davis, as a closer, has been one of the Anglers’ most reliable arms. He is 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA and four saves, and has 24 strikeouts in 20 innings.

"Every guy on this team is All-Star caliber," said Collins as he pointed to his teammates in the dugout. "I feel blessed to be able to play in the game on their behalf."

Now they’ll get a chance to play on the league’s biggest stage and show everyone what Chatham already knows.

"We have great players everywhere on this team," Murray said. "And it'll be pretty cool to play with some in the All-Star game and represent Chatham. Definitely a great honor."

Up next

The Anglers (14-16-1) will host Yarmouth-Dennis (17-14) at Veterans Field at 7 p.m. on Saturday, and it will be second time Red Sox visit Chatham in three days. The visitors are currently a spot ahead of the hosts in the East Division standings, heightening the magnitude of the matchup. Charlie Dant (Dayton) will start for Chatham and Walter Buehler for Y-D.
