Chatham’s John Schiffner may have the most managerial wins in the history of the Cape Cod Baseball League, but his expertise extends beyond the dugout and field. Schiffner recently released “Grillin’ and Chillin with the Skipper,” the Official Cookbook of the Chatham Anglers, where you can find all of his recipes.
In the book, you can find Schiffner’s story behind his love for cooking as well as recipes for appetizers and starters, soups, chowders and stews and salads, among many other things. All recipes are accompanied by quippy commentary from Schiffer himself, that touch on his experiences both at and away from the grill.
In the opening pages Schiffner says he is a “self proclaimed one heck of a cook,” and his evident knowledge permeates throughout its pages. You can buy “Grillin’ and Chillin with the Skipper” at the Anglers merchandise tent, which is open below the press box at all Chatham home games.
After falling to Yarmouth-Dennis on Saturday night, Chatham (14-17-1) will travel to McKeon Park to face Hyannis (13-19) at 6 p.m. Zac Gallen (North Carolina) will start for the Anglers and will be opposed by the Harbor Hawks' Shaefer Shepard.
