Anglers travel to Falmouth for first time this season

FALMOUTH, Mass. – The 2015 Cape Cod Baseball League regular season is already more than three quarters finished, but the Chatham Anglers (19-15) still have one more ball park to travel to— the Falmouth Commodores' Arnie Allen Diamond. The Anglers split a doubleheader with the Commodores (13-20) June 14 at Veterans Field, but they have not traveled to Falmouth's home field in 366 days.

A solid corps of Angler relievers—Brandon Miller (Millersville), James Mulry (Northeastern), and Andre Scrubb (High Point)— flashed a foreshadowing of things to come in the first contest between the two squads this year. The three Chatham relievers combined for the final four innings of the two-run victory, with Mulry recording the win and Scrubb the save.

“The guys in the bullpen have done a great job all year,” said Manager John Schiffner. “They’ve nailed games shut for us.”

Tonight the Angler bullpen, which has combined for six wins and 11 saves on the year, will have the opportunity to nail another one shut at 6:00 p.m. in Falmouth. The starting pitcher the Chatham pen is expected to back is the strike-throwing Parker Dunshee (Wake Forest). A 2015 Cape Cod Baseball League All Star, Dunshee brings 3 wins and an ERA of 2.73 into today’s play. The right-hander issues walks less than once every five innings, largely a result of him throwing first pitch strikes to three out of every four batters he has faced this year.

He will likely go against Falmouth’s Conor Costello (Oklahoma State). A relatively late arrival, Costello did not pitch his first Cape Cod League game until June 22. Since then he has recorded a 1-2 record with a 3.37 ERA through four appearances (all starts). Similar to Dunshee, Costello is also a strike-throwing right-hander. Collegiate teammate to Chatham pitcher Garrett Williams, Costello has recorded 10 strikeouts and two walks through 24 innings on the Cape.

Dominic Cotroneo and Jonny Wincott will have the call live, starting with the Anglers Extra Pregame Show at 5:40 p.m. on TRZ Teamline and at 1-800-846-4700, code 3841.
