CHATHAM, Mass. – The Chatham Anglers’ (20-15) pitching staff did it again Wednesday night. Behind a rock-solid start from Parker Dunshee (Wake Forest) and a lethal combined relief effort split between A.J. Puckett (Pepperdine), Brandon Miller (Millersville), and Aaron McGarity (Virginia Tech), the Anglers held their opponents to one run or fewer for the ninth time this season in a 4-1 victory over Falmouth.

“The pitchers do a great job of moving in and out, hitting spots, and changing speeds,” said Aaron Barnett (Pepperdine), who has taken care of the bulk of Chatham’s catching lately while also maintaining an active nine-game hit streak. “They all throw with a lot of confidence and know what they have to do to keep batters off-balanced.”

Tonight the Angler staff will attempt to again keep their opponents off-balanced when they face the Cotuit Kettleers (13-22) 7 p.m. at Veterans Field. The matchup comes on the heels of a clash between the two teams just two days earlier at Lowell Park in Cotuit. In that contest Zac Gallen (North Carolina) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, and an Angler trio of C.J Burdick (San Diego), Jonathan Teaney (San Diego), and Andre Scrubb (High Point) nailed the 7-2 victory shut.

“The pitchers have all been doing their jobs,” said Manager John Schiffner. “It’s been almost every night too.”

The Chatham pitcher who will likely try to keep things rolling for the Anglers this evening is the right-handed Jake Godfrey (Louisiana State). Godfrey sports a 1.86 ERA and an unchanged 0-0 record through his first four outings this summer. The New Lenox, Illinois native has only allowed more than one run a single time this season—July 7 when Bourne “broke through” for two on him.

He will likely be met by Cotuit’s Jonathan King (Georgia Tech). King is 1-1 with a 3.33 ERA through six starts on the summer. He has struck out 23 while issuing seven walks and allowing 32 hits over 27 innings pitched.

Chatham Manager John Schiffner is also currently sitting at 499 career Cape League wins. The next victory he records will make him the first manager in league history to break the 500-win threshold.
