Anglers in the 2015 Super Regionals

The Regional round of play whittled down a group of twenty-one Anglers across twelve teams to five Anglers on three different squads.

The three remaining teams with Anglers on the roster, #2 LSU, #3 Louisville, and #4 Florida, begin Super Regional play on Friday. Each will play a three-game series for the right to be one of the eight schools advancing to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Below is the Super Regional schedule for games involving Anglers. Home teams are given first.

 

Baton Rouge Super Regional

#2 LSU: Jake Fraley (leftfield, 2014, 2015), Jake Godfrey (pitcher, 2015)

Saturday: #2 LSU vs. Louisiana-Lafayette at 8:00 p.m. EST on ESPN2

Sunday: Louisiana-Lafayette vs. #2 LSU at 6:00 p.m. EST on ESPN3/ Watch ESPN

Monday (if necessary): #2 LSU vs. Louisiana-Lafayette at 7:00 p.m. EST on ESPN3/ Watch ESPN

What you need to know: LSU made it through the first round with a perfect 3-0 record. Jake Fraley had a hot round swinging the bat for LSU in the Regionals, going 7 for 11 with 1 RBI and 2 runs for the Tigers. That brings the LSU outfielder to a .311 batting average with 31 RBIs and 45 runs on the year thus far. Jake Godfrey did not pitch in the Regional round. Godfrey is 7-1 with 39 strikeouts and a 4.70 ERA through 53.2 innings of work during the 2015 campaign.

 

Louisville Super Regional

#3 Louisville: Kyle Funkhouser (pitcher, 2013, Team USA 2014), Zack Burdi (pitcher, 2014, Team USA 2015)

Saturday: #3 Louisville vs. Cal State Fullerton at 11:00 a.m. EST on ESPN2

Sunday: Cal State Fullerton vs. #3 Louisville at 12:00 noon EST on ESPN3/ Watch ESPN

Monday (if necessary): #3 Louisville vs. Cal State Fullerton at 1:00 p.m. EST on ESPN3/ Watch ESPN

What you need to know: Louisville did not drop a game in the Regionals. Kyle Funkhouser recorded the win for the Cardinals in the first game of the tournament when he sat down 6 batters and surrendered only 2 runs over 7.0 innings against Morehead State. That brings Funkhouser’s season totals thus far to an 8-5 record with an impressive 105.1 innings pitched, 99 strikeouts, and a 3.25 ERA. Zack Burdi picked up the win in relief against Michigan in Louisville’s second game, striking out 3 and having 0 runs marked against him over 1.1 innings. That brings the Cardinal’s closer, Burdi, to a 6-0 record and 0.71 ERA on the year.

 

Gainesville Super Regional

#4 Florida: Dane Dunning (pitcher, 2015)

Friday: #4 Florida vs. Florida State at 7:30 p.m. EST on ESPN2

Saturday: Florida State vs. #4 Florida at 5:00 p.m. EST on ESPN2

Sunday (if necessary): #4 Florida vs. Florida State at 6:00 p.m. EST on ESPN3/ Watch ESPN

What you need to know: Florida was undefeated in the Regionals. Dane Dunning did not pitch in the round. On the year Dunning is 5-2 with a 3.95 ERA, and opponents are only batting .215 against him. He has notched 53 strikeouts to only 21 walks in 54.2 innings.
