Chatham, Mass. — The Cape Cod Baseball League announced its 2016 Hall of Fame inductees Sunday. The class of six players features former Chatham A’s right-handed pitcher Mark Petkovsek, a University of Texas product, who played in the CCBL in 1985 and 1986.
After winning 14 games for Chatham over the stretch of two summers, Petkovsek went on to pitch for four teams in Major League Baseball before retiring in 2001 at the age of 35. Petkovsek suited up for the Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals, and the then-Anaheim Angels during his nine-season career.
One of Petkovsek’s greatest professional accomplishments came in 1994 with the Tucson Toros, the then AAA affiliate of the Houston Astros. Petkovsek threw a no-hitter against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox – the first in Toro’s history.
Joining Petkovsek in the Hall of Fame will be J.C. Holt (Brewster 2003), Warner Jones (Wareham 2003 & 2004), Jim McCollom (Falmouth 1984), Kyle Roller (Bourne 2009 & 2010), and Kolten Wong (Orleans 2010). Holt won league MVP as well as the batting title in 2003 for the Whitecaps. Wong captured the 2010 MVP a year before the St. Louis Cardinals selected him in the first round of the MLB Draft.
