Chatham, Mass. — The Anglers (1-1) will face the Cotuit Kettleers (2-0) in tonight’s home opener at Veterans Field.
Right-handed pitcher Jack Perkins (Stetson) is expected to take the mound for Chatham. Perkins had a successful sophomore season with the Hatters, finishing with an 2.71 ERA and 108 strikeouts over 99.2 innings.
Last night, Chatham fell to Bourne (1-1) 4-3 in a close matchup at Doran Park, Bourne. Shortstop Jimmy Titus (Bryant) and second baseman Josh Shaw (St. John’s) posted RBI singles to give the Anglers an advantage of two in the top of the fifth, but the Braves responded with a three-run rally to reclaim the lead in the bottom of the inning.
Cotuit enters tonight’s contest undefeated, after blanking the Falmouth Commodores (0-2) 10-0 Thursday at Lowell Park, Cotuit. The Kettleers opened the season with a 5-3 victory over Bourne Wednesday.
The Kettleers have earned more Cape League titles than any other team, with 16. Cotuit last won the crown in 2013, following a post-season sweep of the Orleans Firebirds. In 2016, the Anglers went 1-3 against the team, after a 4-0 showing in the 2015 season.
