Anglers top Gatemen 6-1 in game two for doubleheader sweep

Chatham, Mass. — After besting Wareham (2-3) 8-3 in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday, the Anglers (3-1) swept the Gatemen 6-1 in game two at Veterans Field.

Chatham struck first, posting a lead of three in the first inning. Right fielder Jacob Olson (South Carolina) drove second baseman Jake Palomaki (Boston College) home on an RBI double to open scoring, before first baseman Nick Patten (Delaware) notched a two-run home run, his second of the day.

Left fielder Mason Koppens (Northeastern) added an RBI in the bottom of the second, sending third baseman Antonio Ralat (Alabama — Birmingham) home to widen the advantage to four.

Willie MacIver (Washington) crossed the plate on an RBI single from Blake Sabol (Southern California) in the top of the fourth, but Koppens ran home on a wild pitch in the fifth to secure the victory for Chatham. Center fielder DJ Artis added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, sending Ralat home on an RBI single.

Starter John Signore (Fairfield) threw five strikeouts over 5.0 innings, before Nick Silva (Maine) provided two scoreless innings of relief.

Right-handed pitcher Fitzpatrick Stadler (Arizona State) threw two strikeouts over 2.0 innings for the Gatemen. Tanner Dodson (California) and Brad Case (Rollins) combined for 4.0 innings of relief.

The Anglers will face the Cotuit Kettleers (4-0) in a make-up game tomorrow at Veterans Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
