Anglers host Cotuit in rescheduled contest Monday

Chatham, Mass. — The Anglers (3-1) will host the Cotuit Kettleers (4-0) in a makeup game tonight at 7 p.m. at Veterans Field. The contest was originally scheduled for Friday, June 16, but was postponed after half an inning due to inclement weather.

Last night, Chatham swept Wareham by tallies of 8-3 and 6-1 in a home doubleheader. First baseman Nick Patten (Delaware) led the Anglers with five RBIs on two home runs for the day, while center fielder DJ Artis (Liberty) recorded a pair of RBIs across the contests.

Right-handed pitcher Dan Hammer (Pittsburgh) will take the mound for the Anglers. Hammer had a successful rookie season with the Panthers, throwing 51 strikeouts over 59.0 innings. He finished 2017 with an ERA of 5.03, starting 16 games as a member of the team’s regular weekend rotation.

Seth Shuman (Georgia Southern) will start for Cotuit. Shuman paced the Eagles with 49 strikeouts over 56.2 innings in 2017, completing his freshman season with an ERA of 3.34.

Last night, the Kettleers swept the Brewster Whitecaps (2-2) 4-3 and 2-1 to preserve their undefeated slate. Cotuit blanked Falmouth (1-4) 10-0 Thursday, after topping Bourne (2-1) 5-3 in the season opener Wednesday.

The Kettleers have earned more Cape League titles than any other team, with 16. Cotuit last won the crown in 2013, following a post-season sweep of the Orleans Firebirds. In 2016, the Anglers went 1-3 against the team, after a 4-0 showing in the 2015 season. Both teams enter tonight’s contest leading their divisions.
