Chatham, Mass. — The Anglers (4-2) face three-time reigning Cape League champions, the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (3-1-1), for the first time this season tonight at Red Wilson Field, Yarmouth.
Last night, Chatham closed out a four-game home slate with a 5-3 loss to the Hyannis Harbor Hawks (3-2). Shortstop Antonio Ralat (Alabama — Birmingham) led the Anglers with a 3-4 showing at the plate, while second baseman Josh Shaw (St. John’s) notched a pair of hits and an RBI. Chatham loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but was unable to generate enough offense to recover from the deficit.
“We didn’t get clutch hits,” said field manager John Schiffner. "We got on base, but we needed some clutch hits, [and] we didn’t get those.”
Right-handed pitcher Justin Lasko (Massachusetts — Amherst) will take the mound for Chatham this evening. Lasko last appeared in the team’s season opener at Falmouth (3-4) June 14, earning the 8-7 win with five strikeouts over 5.1 innings.
Tim Brennan (St. Joseph’s) also opened the season for the Red Sox, throwing seven strikeouts over 5.0 innings in the team’s 4-2 victory over the Harwich Mariners (2-4) June 14. Brennan had a successful sophomore season with the St. Joseph's Hawks, finishing 2017 with an ERA of 2.85 and 60 strikeouts over a team-high 75.2 innings.
Last night, the Red Sox’ contest against the Brewster Whitecaps (2-2) ended in a 7-7 tie after being called due to darkness. Yarmouth-Dennis bested the Orleans Firebirds (2-5) 2-1 Monday, after suffering a 5-2 loss to Harwich Saturday.
