Chatham, Mass.— The Anglers (4-3) face the Orleans Firebirds (3-5) for the first time this season at Eldredge Park, Orleans tonight.
Last night, Chatham fell to the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (4-1-1) despite posting a lead of six by the sixth inning. The Red Sox notched nine runs — including two consecutive home runs — in the bottom of the eighth to secure the victory.
“Once they started stringing a couple of hits together, they just had a lot of confidence,” said catcher Cody Roberts (North Carolina). “They just kind of hit balls in the right spots to get hits.”
Roberts led Chatham with a pair of hits and 3 RBIs, while first baseman Austin Edens (Samford) notched one hit and two RBIs.
Taylor Luciani (Quinnipiac) will take the mound for Chatham tonight. Luciani last appeared in the team’s June 15 contest against the Bourne Braves (3-2), throwing three strikeouts over 4.1 innings in the 4-3 loss.
Graeme Stinson (Duke) will start for the Firebirds, after appearing in losses against Yarmouth-Dennis and Falmouth (3-5) this season. Stinson finished his rookie year with the Blue Devils with a 6.67 ERA and 45 strikeouts over 28.1 innings.
Orleans blanked Bourne 4-0 Wednesday, after sweeping the Wareham Gatemen (3-5) 2-0 Tuesday. The Firebirds fell to Yarmouth-Dennis 2-1 Monday, marking their second loss to the team this season.
