Anglers fall to Harwich 11-2 in fourth consecutive loss

Chatham, Mass. — The Anglers (4-5) fell to the Harwich Mariners (4-5-1) 11-2 at Veterans Field Friday. The contest marks the team's fourth consecutive loss this week.

Harwich struck first, when Ryne Ogren (Elon) drove Andrew Moritz (North Carolina Greensboro) home on an RBI.

Second baseman Jacob Olson (South Carolina) answered with an RBI double to left field in the bottom of the third, sending third baseman Jake Palomaki (Boston College) home from first base.

Cal Krueger (Indiana) crossed the plate on an error in the top of the fifth, before Cobie Vance (Alabama) sent Kyler Murray (Oklahoma) home to reclaim the lead for Harwich.

Designated hitter Shea Langeliers (Baylor) hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Mariners’ Nick Dalesandro (Purdue) crossed the plate on a throwing error to widen the advantage for the Mariners.

An eight-run ninth inning rally lifted the Mariners above the Anglers. Vance, Matt Vierling (Notre Dame), Dalesandro and Murray notched RBI singles to secure the victory for Harwich.

“We did not perform very well,” said field manager John Schiffner. “There’s not much else to say.”

Starter Jack Perkins (Stetson) took the loss for the Anglers, allowing one earned run with four strikeouts over 4.1 innings. Nick Rand (Massachusetts — Lowell), Bo Burrup (Brigham Young) and RJ Freure (Pittsburgh) combined for 4.2 innings of relief.

Brian Christian (Northeastern) handed Chatham two earned runs with five strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Jamie Sara (William & Mary), Theodore Rodliff (Stony Brook) and Cole Aker (North Carolina) completed the game in relief.

The Anglers host the Brewster Whitecaps (4-3-1) at Veterans Field Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
