Chatham seeks to reclaim .500 record against Brewster tonight

Chatham, Mass. — The Anglers (4-5) face the Brewster Whitecaps (4-3-1) for the first time this season at Veterans Field tonight. The teams were originally scheduled to meet at Brewster Saturday June 17, but the contest was postponed due to unplayable field conditions.

Last night, an eight-run ninth inning rally lifted the Harwich Mariners (4-5-1) above the Anglers 11-2. Second baseman Jacob Olson (South Carolina) and designated hitter Shea Langeliers (Baylor) notched RBIs early in the game for Chatham, but the team was unable to generate enough offense match the Mariners.

Cobie Vance (Alabama), Matt Vierling (Notre Dame), Nick Dalesandro (Purdue) and Kyler Murray (Oklahoma) posted RBI singles in the ninth to secure the victory for Harwich.

“We did not perform very well,” said field manager John Schiffner. “There’s not much else to say.”

Starter Jack Perkins (Stetson) took the loss for the Anglers, allowing one earned run with four strikeouts over 4.1 innings. Nick Rand (Massachusetts — Lowell), Bo Burrup (Brigham Young) and RJ Freure (Pittsburgh) combined for 4.2 innings of relief.

Left-handed pitcher Jeff Belge (St. John’s) will make his Cape League debut against the Whitecaps tonight. Belge had a successful rookie season with the Red Storm, throwing 47 strikeouts over 48.2 innings. He finished 2017 with an ERA of 5.36.

The Whitecaps fell to Cotuit (5-4) 12-6 Friday, after besting Wareham (4-6) 9-2 Thursday and Falmouth (4-6) 7-4 Wednesday.

The Anglers visit Hyannis (3-5) Sunday for a doubleheader, before returning to Veterans Field to host Bourne (5-2) Tuesday.

First pitch against the Whitecaps is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Anglers’ Extra Pregame Show begins at 6:40 p.m. Listen here: http://bit.ly/ChathamBroadcasts
