Anglers drop game one of Hyannis doubleheader 8-5

Hyannis, Mass. — The Anglers (5-6) dropped the first game of a doubleheader against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks 8-5 (4-6-1) at McKeon Park, Hyannis Sunday.

Hyannis’ Micah Coffey (Minnesota) and Ryan Olenek (Mississippi) crossed the plate on bases-loaded walks in the bottom of the second, before Reece Hampton (North Carolina) added an RBI single.

Catcher Shea Langeliers (Baylor) hit a solo home run to left in the top of the fourth, but Hyannis responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to widen the lead. Hampton notched an RBI single and scored on a passed ball, before Jake Mangum (Mississippi State) crossed the plate on an error.  Dominic DiCaprio (Rice) posted a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth. 

Langeliers hit a grand slam in the top of the seventh to narrow the deficit, but the game was out of reach for the Anglers. 

Starter Jacob Stevens (Boston College) allowed three earned runs with one strikeout over 3.0 innings, before Reiss Knehr (Fordham) and Josiah Gray (Le Moyne) combined for 3.0 innings of relief.

Michael Brettell (Central Michigan) handed Chatham one earned run with three strikeouts over 5.0 innings, before Nick Sandlin (Southern Mississippi) completed the game in relief.
