Anglers host Bourne tonight

Chatham, Mass. — The Anglers (5-7) face the Bourne Braves (7-4) for the second time this season at Veterans Field tonight. Chatham previously fell to the Braves by a tally of 4-3 at Doran Park, Bourne June 15.

Sunday, the Anglers fell to Hyannis (5-6-1) 8-5 and 9-2 in a pair of contests at McKeon Park, Hyannis. Catcher Shea Langeliers (Baylor) led Chatham with 6 RBIs and four hits —  including two home runs — for the day, but the team was unable to generate enough offense to claim a victory.

“Some of us our pressing and trying to do too much at the plate, and then we’re playing these other teams and they’re getting the soft hits,” Langeliers said. “For us to get a hit right now, it seems like you have to hit it at a hundred miles an hour.”

Starters Jacob Stevens (Boston College) and Austin Bergner (North Carolina) took the losses for Chatham. Stevens allowed allowed three earned runs with one strikeout over 3.0 innings in game one, before Bergner handed Hyannis one earned run with two strikeouts over just as many innings in the second contest.

Dan Hammer (Pittsburgh) will take the mound for the Anglers tonight. Hammer last appeared in the team’s June 19 8-4 makeup victory over Cotuit (6-6), allowing two earned runs with four strikeouts over 4.2 innings.

Christopher Holba (East Carolina) will start for the Braves. Holba threw five strikeouts over 4.1 innings against Chatham June 15, before allowing one earned run over 5.0 innings in a 4-0 loss to Orleans (7-6) June 21.

The Braves bested the Brewster Whitecaps (6-5-1) 5-3 Monday, after falling to the team by tallies of 4-3 and 6-4 in a pair of contests at Stony Brook Field Sunday.

The Anglers visit Brewster Wednesday and Thursday, before returning to Chatham to host Falmouth (6-7) Friday.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Anglers Extra Pregame Show begins at 6:40 p.m. — listen to the live broadcast here: http://bit.ly/ChathamBroadcasts
