Anglers suffer 11-1 loss to Brewster

Brewster, Mass. — Despite leading the game in hits 9-7, the Anglers (6-8) suffered an 11-1 loss to the Brewster Whitecaps (7-6-1) at Stony Brook Field, Brewster Wednesday.

Mickey Gasper (Bryant) opened scoring for Brewster with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third, before Hunter Bishop (Arizona State) added an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.

Chandler Taylor (Alabama — Tuscaloosa) and Nick Dunn (Maryland College Park) notched RBI doubles in the bottom of the fifth. Justin Kunz (Gardner-Webb) added a two-run home run, before Connor Smith (Western Michigan) posted a two-run single to secure the victory for Brewster.

Shortstop Jeremy Peña (Maine) added an RBI single in the top of the ninth, but the game was out of reach for the Anglers.

Adam Hill (South Carolina) took the loss, allowing two earned runs with two strikeouts over 4.0 innings. Joe Lienhard (Oklahoma State), Ryan Hedrick (Presbyterian), Andre Pallante (California — Irvine) and Josiah Gray (Le Moyne) combined for 4.0 innings of relief.

Tony Locey (Georgia) denied Chatham with seven strikeouts over 5.0 scoreless innings. Robert Broom (Mercer) and Paul Milto (Indiana) completed the game in relief.

“We need to be consistent and we were not,” said manager John Schiffner. “We played a really good ball game last night ... and today we came out and we didn’t play well at all in any aspect of the game.”

The Anglers return to Stony Brook Field for a makeup contest against the Whitecaps Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
