Anglers host Falmouth tonight

Chatham, Mass. — The Anglers (6-9) face the Falmouth Commodores (8-7) for the second time this season at Veterans Field tonight. Chatham previously edged the Commodores 8-7 in the season opener at Guv Fuller Field, Falmouth June 14.

Last night, the Anglers fell 6-4 to the Brewster Whitecaps in a close matchup at Stony Brook Field, Brewster. The contest marked the team’s second loss to the Whitecaps in two days, after Wednesday’s contest resulted in an 11-1 defeat.

“It’s a tough loss, back-to-back games,” said catcher Fabian Peña (Manhattan). “Today we just kept the game close and we did a lot better, were a lot cleaner defensively and we just had better, more competitive at bats.”

Peña led the Anglers with a pair of RBIs and one hit, while shortstop Jeremy Peña (Maine) notched a trio of hits.

Starter Cameron Bishop (California — Irvine) allowed one earned run with two strikeouts over 3.0 innings. Reiss Knehr (Fordham), Eli Nabholz (Millersville), Dan Metzdorf (Boston College) and Austin Bergner (North Carolina) combined for 5.0 innings of relief.

William Tribucher (Michigan) handed Chatham three earned runs with five strikeouts over 32 innings. Christopher Machamer (Kentucky) earned the win with two strikeouts over 3.1 scoreless innings, before Joe DeMers (Washington) posted a scoreless two-inning save.

Jack Perkins (Stetson) will take the mound for Chatham tonight. Perkins last appeared in the team’s 11-2 loss to the Harwich Mariners (5-9-1) June 23, allowing two earned runs with four strikeouts over 4.1 innings.

Tyler Blohm (Maryland College Park) will start for the Commodores. Blohm threw seven strikeouts over 5.0 innings in Falmouth’s 10-5 victory over the Hyannis Harbor Hawks (6-8-1) June 22, after providing three innings of relief in the team’s 5-3 loss to the Wareham Gatemen (6-9) June 17.

Falmouth enters tonight’s contest on a three-game winning streak, after besting Wareham 8-4 Wednesday, Brewster 7-1 Tuesday and Yarmouth-Dennis (8-6-1) 2-1 Sunday.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Anglers Extra Pregame Show begins at 6:40 p.m. — listen to the live broadcast here: http://bit.ly/ChathamBroadcasts
