Chatham, Mass. — The Anglers (9-12) face the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (11-9-1) for the third time this season at Red Wilson Field, Yarmouth tonight. The teams share a split record, after Chatham posted a 4-0 victory over the Red Sox July 3 and suffered an 11-8 loss June 19.
A four-run rally fueled the Anglers to a 4-2 defeat of the Orleans Firebirds (14-7) Wednesday. The victory snapped a league-high ten-game Orleans winning streak.
Second baseman Josh Shaw (St. John’s), first baseman Nick Patten (Delaware), designated hitter Shea Langeliers (Baylor) and catcher Fabian Pena (Manhattan) plated runners to reclaim the lead in the fourth inning.
“The timely hits win games, and we had a few guys come up — Patten came up big with that ball off the wall,” Shaw said. “We need everybody to step up to be good.”
Starter Adam Hill (South Carolina) sent the Firebirds down in order in the first two innings, dealing four strikeouts over four frames in total.
Relief pitcher Cameron Bishop (California — Irvine) blanked Orleans with a storm of eight strikeouts over three scoreless innings, before Rodney Hutchison Jr. (North Carolina) dealt three strikeouts in the two-inning save.
“Hill was outstanding, he reached what we felt was a comfortable pitch count for him,” said manager John Schiffner. “What can you say about Bishop when he came in' He just slammed the door shut — so did Hutch.”
Jack Perkins (Stetson) will take the mound for Chatham tonight. Perkins most recently took the team’s 8-3 loss to Falmouth (11-10) June 30, allowing seven earned runs with three strikeouts over three innings.
The Red Sox posted a 3-1 victory over the Hyannis Harbor Hawks (8-12-1) Wednesday, after suffering three consecutive 4-0 losses to Hyannis, Wareham (10-11) and Chatham.
The Anglers return to Veterans Field to host Orleans Sunday, before visiting Wareham Monday.
