Chatham hosts West leader Bourne tonight

Chatham, Mass. — The Anglers (14-15) face the Bourne Braves (15-13) for the fourth time this season — and second time this week — at Veterans Field tonight. A three-run eleventh lifted Chatham above Bourne 4-1 in extra frames Friday.

The Anglers currently share a 2-1 record with the Braves, after sweeping the team 8-2 at home June 27 and falling on the road 4-3 June 15.

Last night, a two-run single from Mason Koppens (Northeastern) and six scoreless innings from starting pitcher Jeff Belge (St. John’s) fueled Chatham to a 3-0 shutout of the Harwich Mariners (10-17-1).

Koppens drove in Nick Patten (Delaware) and Josh Stowers (Lousiville) on the game-winning break in the fourth inning. Stowers knocked in another run on a double in the fifth to widen the lead.

“They’re starting to catch up to the pitching now,” said manager John Schiffner. “They’re starting to get accustomed to how good this pitching is, [and] they’re making adjustments.”

Belge and relief pitcher Rodney Hutchison Jr. (North Carolina) combined for the scoreless nine.

Righty Austin Bergner (North Carolina) will take the mound for Chatham tonight. Bergner most recently appeared in the team’s 8-2 victory over Wareham (12-15-1) July 10, limiting the Gatemen to two earned runs over 5.2 innings.

After falling to Chatham Friday, Bourne bested Falmouth (13-14-1) 4-1 at Doran Park Saturday. The team currently leads the West Division, edging the Cotuit Kettleers (14-13-1) by one point.

The Anglers host the Brewster Whitecaps (14-14-1) at Veterans Field Tuesday, before visiting Falmouth Wednesday.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Anglers Extra Pregame Show begins at 6:40 p.m. — listen here: http://bit.ly/ChathamBroadcasts
