Anglers end of season awards announced

Chatham, Mass. — The recipients of the Anglers’ annual end of season awards were announced at Veterans Field Thursday.

Seven team members received prizes for their efforts and performances this season. Manager John Schiffner’s uniform number, 15, was also retired in honor of his time and service to the Anglers.

The Ed Lyons Coaches Awards were given to catcher Shea Langeliers (Baylor), pitcher Adam Wolf (Louisville) and second baseman Josh Shaw (St. John’s). The accolades are awarded to the player or players who go above and beyond the expectations of the coaching staff, and lead the team in their exemplary work ethic each season.

Jack DeGroat (Liberty) received the Zane Carlson Relief Pitcher of the Year Award. The prize is named for Carlson, a Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Famer and former Chatham A who holds the record for the most saves in the history of the Cape Cod Baseball League.

The Ed Baird Outstanding Pitcher of the Year Award, named for the Chatham Athletic Association Treasurer, merchandise coordinator and Cape Cod League Hall of Fame member Baird, was granted to Rodney Hutchison Jr. (North Carolina).

Outfielder Mason Koppens (Northeastern) received the Silver Slugger Award, given to an outstanding position player for their overall contribution to the team’s offense.

The Willard Nicholas Most Outstanding Player Award was awarded to pitcher Austin Bergner (North Carolina). The prize is named in honor of Nicholas’ selfless hours of volunteering to help maintain the franchise.

The Anglers open playoff competition against the Orleans Firebirds at Eldredge Park, Orleans Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
