After having its three-game win streak snapped on Tuesday in a 6-3 loss at Wareham, Chatham (4-3-1) returns to action on Wednesday with its second trip to Brewster (2-4-1) of the summer. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Stony Brook Field, as the Eastern Division foes will face off for the third time this season.

Wednesday will feature a matchup between two starting pitchers each making their Cape League debut.

Davis Daniel (Auburn), who was activated this morning, will make his A’s debut on the mound after wrapping up his college season on June 11 in a Game 3 loss to top-seeded Florida in the NCAA Super Regionals. The right-hander tossed 66.2 innings in his sophomore season, registering 70 strikeouts and a 4.86 ERA. 

Reid Detmers (Louisville), Brewster’s scheduled starter, was activated by the Whitecaps on Monday. The left-hander posted 69 strikeouts in 55.2 innings during the spring season.

The A’s will face a left-handed starting pitcher for the second-straight game after Wareham’s Ken Waldichuk (St. Mary’s) tossed five scoreless frames against the A’s on Tuesday.

“We are not real good yet against left-handed pitching,” Holliday said after Tuesday’s loss at Wareham. “That's something we are going to have to work at.”

During the Anglers’ first visit to Brewster on June 14, their pitching was dominant. Cody Bradford (Baylor) and Hunter Gaddis (Georgia State) each threw four innings of two-hit shutout ball before Greg Veliz (Miami) closed the game with three strikeouts in the ninth inning.

Four different A’s tallied two or more hits off Whitecaps pitchers, including Tristin English (Georgia Tech), who had three hits and an RBI. In addition, Spencer Torkelson (Arizona State) torched his first round-tripper of the season, a three-run shot in the fifth inning as Chatham picked up the 8-0 win, its first of the season.

When the Whitecaps visited Veterans Field the following night, the result was reversed. Brewster put a five-spot on Chatham starter Jackson Wark (Saint Louis) in the second inning and never looked back in an eventual 10-1 triumph. Four different Whitecaps pitchers combined to strike out the A’s 17 times, an effort Holliday credited to fatigue.

“Were playing a small group because that's all we got,” Holliday said after the defeat on June 15. “We don’t have a large number of players. Some tiredness, some fatigue showed up tonight.”

This time around, Chatham boasts a more defined lineup along with a few new additions whose college seasons just concluded. The A’s activated relief pitcher Nick Scheidler (UCLA) and infielder Drew Mendoza (Florida State). Since Monday, Jake Snider (Louisville) and Benny Wanger (Yale) were released and Rylan Thomas (Central Florida) signed a contract with the Cincinnati Reds.
