Six Chatham Anglers were named to the Eastern Division roster for the 2018 Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game to be held at Whitehouse Field in Harwich on July 22.
Chatham had four players named to the starting lineup for the game. No other team in the league has more than three starters.
Dan Hammer (Pittsburgh) was tabbed as the starting pitcher for the contest. Hammer is 2-0 in five appearances with a 1.22 ERA and a 0.68 WHIP.
Blake Sabol (Southern California) got the nod behind the dish. Sabol is hitting .317 with five home runs, five RBI and .960 OPS.
Set to man center field is John Rave (Illinois State). The rising junior has 26 hits, 19 runs scored, five doubles, two home runs, 11 walks and .429 on-base percentage.
Tristin English (Georgia Tech) — who has made starts at four different positions — was named the East Division’s designated hitter. English is hitting .319 with four home runs, 15 RBI and .542 slugging percentage.
Coming out of the bullpen for the East Division will be Troy Miller (Michigan) and Greg Veliz (Miami). Miller has made seven appearances and has a 1.01 ERA, 23 strikeouts and .119 batting average against. Veliz has three saves in nine appearances and averages a team-high 14.14 strikeouts per nine innings.
In addition to the six All-Stars, Chatham has two players participating in the Home Run Hitting Contest — the most of any team. Sabol and Spencer Torkelson (Arizona State) highlight the participants in the contest. Both Pac-12 sluggers have five home runs on the season.
