Chatham starts its season with three home games in three straight days, beginning against Cotuit on June 12. Heading into the matchup against the Kettleers, manager Tom Holliday broke down both permanent and temporary players on the Anglers' roster and what they'll bring to Veterans Field in 2022.

Chatham currently has 18 players on its pitching staff who will be present on opening day, including 10 right-handed pitchers and eight left-handers. Holliday said that the Anglers will start their season with three pitchers splitting the innings against Cotuit before moving to two primary arms for a certain game.

Here's an analysis of Chatham's pitching staff before Sunday's opener, according to Holliday:

William Carsten (RHP)

Carsten is one of a handful of junior college arms which Holliday has added to Chatham's roster in 2022. The fourth-year manager said that Carsten specifically had 'no fear' on the mound for McLennan Community College, who won the NJCAA DI Baseball World Series in 2021. Holliday added that Carsten's ability to throw three strong pitches will help Chatham this summer.

Hayden Durke (RHP)

Durke pitched 39.1 innings at University of Louisiana at Lafayette as a freshman in 2021, recording 46 strikeouts with a 5.26 ERA. He's currently in the transfer portal. Holliday said that Durke has shown skills to potentially be a closer for Chatham, and that he has impressed with his arm from practice heading into the season.

Magnus Ellerts (RHP)

Ellerts is one of five players on Chatham's roster from Florida Southwestern State, and he committed to Florida earlier in the offseason. Ellerts spent his freshman year at Patrick Henry Community College in Virginia, going 10-2 with a 2.60 ERA and 141 strikeouts in roughly 87 innings.

Miguel Fulgencio (LHP)

Fulgencio began his collegiate athletic career as a part of Oklahoma State's football team, primarily serving as a running back and inside linebacker. He transferred to Cowley College, where he discovered his talent at the mound. Holliday said that players who have transitioned from sports like football into baseball can immediately be successful, and he's eager to see what he can provide for the Anglers this year.

Ben Hampton (LHP)

While the Anglers have plenty of pitchers who can reach near a 100 mph on their pitches, Holliday stressed the importance of having arms that don't have a high velocity. Hampton fits in that role for the Anglers, coming to Chatham after recording a 4.66 ERA over the past season at West Virginia.

Brian Holiday (RHP)

Holliday said that Holiday came onto his rader late and that he could see Holiday get drafted into the MLB based on the 'great spin' he's able to create with the ball. At Florida Southwestern State, Holiday recorded a 1.20 ERA in 20 appearances. He also posted a 1.00 ERA during his senior year at Land O' Lakes High School.

Paul Labriola (LHP)

Holliday said that the coaching staff still has some work to do with Labriola, but he was unused at Clemson in 2022, only pitching in 10.2 innings. Labriola recorded a 5.06 ERA, and in 2021 he served primarily as a reliever for the Tigers. He also played in the Coastal Plain League in 2020, appearing in five games for Lexington County.

Joe Miller (LHP)

Miller has been University of Pennsylvania's go-to pitcher throughout 2022, leading all Ivy League players in innings pitched (74.1). He also struck out 91 batters, the second-most in Penn history. Holliday said that Miller can 'spin it' and because of the amount he's already played this year, Holliday plans on using Miller sparingly in three or four innings once a week.

Tommy Molsky (RHP)

Molsky had over a 1000 pitches in 2022 with Penn State, though he struggled with a 6.84 ERA by the end of the year. But he fared well against nonconference schools, recording a season-best six strikeouts against University of Massachusetts. Still, Holliday said that he wanted to see more of Molsky before deciding how he could fit into the pitching rotation.

Cy Nielson (LHP)

Nielson returns to Chatham from Brigham Young University after posting a 6.46 ERA in eight games last year with the Anglers. He pitched in 33.2 innings this past season at BYU, posting a 3.21 ERA. Holliday said that Nielson has the skills to be a five inning starter someday in the MLB, and that it didn't take long to convince him to return to Chatham.

Mathew Peters (RHP)

Peters has one of the strongest arms on Chatham's roster this season, able to sling the ball over a 100 mph. Still, Holliday said that the coaching staff needs to fix his second pitch and that it will be tough for him to be 'sharp' with the speed that he's throwing the ball. Peters is currently committed to Miami University after spending the last year at Ivy Tech Community College.

Holden Phelps (RHP)

Phelps played in six games this year at Missouri, recording a season-best three strikeouts against Southern University. a season-best three strikeouts against Southern University.While Holliday said that Phelps had a good arm, he added that the coaching staff still needs to improve his third pitch.

Nicholas Regalado (RHP)

Regalado had a 3.86 in 2022 at Florida Southwestern State. Regalado's ability to utilize a 'little drop down' on his pitches stood out during practice, and similar to Hampton he doesn't rely on trying to send the fastest pitch to home plate. That 'touch' will be something which Holliday said he would employ as early as next week.

Carlos Rey (LHP)

Rey appeared in 16 games for Nova Southeastern University in 2022, posting a 1.40 ERA and a season-best eight strikeouts against Barry University on April 22. Holliday said that Rey could get in for an inning in Chatham's second game against Harwich.

Chris Villaman (LHP)

Villaman was ranked the No. 75 prospect for the 2022 MLB draft last year, and he served as North Carolina State's primarily closer for the previous two seasons. He had a team-best 11 saves, and Holliday said that Villaman will maintain the same closing role with the Anglers, starting on Sunday against Cotuit.

Jacob Watters (RHP)

Watters was a part of Chatham's 2021 squad, but he only pitched in three games due to an injury. Holliday said that Watters was eager to return to the Anglers, and he'll be the second player to take the mound in 2022. Watters stayed healthy throughout his 2022 season at West Virginia, recording a season-best 2.08 ERA in 103 pitches against TCU.

Carson Whisenhunt (LHP)

Whisenhunt is the 36th-best prospect in the 2022 MLB draft, according to mlb.com, and he'll be the starter for Chatham in its opener. Whisenhunt's best weapon has been his changeup, which Holliday said was one of the best that he's ever seen from a college player. In 2021, he recorded a 3.77 ERA in 13 starts at East Carolina.

Ricky Williams (RHP)

Williams is one of Chatham's four Clemson players, joining Labriola as the only other pitcher. Similar to Labriola, Williams didn't see much time at the mound for the Anglers, pitching 21.1 innings in 2022. Holliday said that if a few players are wavering throughout the first three games, Williams' 'great arm' could provide a boost from the bullpen for the Anglers.
