Game 11 Preview: Chatham at Y-D

Coming off a third consecutive loss, Chatham (3-6-1) completes a three-game stretch of away games on Friday at Y-D (4-4-2), where the Anglers and Red Sox will play for the first time this season.

Probable Pitchers

Chris Villaman will take the mound for Chatham. The southpaw is coming off an effective start against Brewster in which he allowed just one hit over four innings but walked five. In his only other appearance, Villaman pitched 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

Grant Taylor has been announced as Y-D's starter. The fact that Taylor is right-handed should benefit the Anglers, as Chatham manager Tom Holliday has been transparent about his team's lack of production against lefties. Harwich tagged Taylor with a loss in his only start this season. Over four innings, Taylor allowed two runs on four hits and struck out six Harbor Hawks.

Chatham Players to Watch

Matt Hogan has been one of the Anglers' most consistent hitters in his return to Chatham. The outfielder is hitting .375 with a .474 on-base percentage over 19 plate appearances. Holliday has rotated his outfielders, but the left-handed-hitting Hogan could be in line for a start against a right-handed pitcher.

Cooper Ingle is another lefty who should benefit against a right-handed starter. Ingle is hitting .192 but leads the Anglers with six walks, helping him to a .364 on-base percentage. Ingle has reached safely in every game he's played this season.

Y-D Players to Watch

Cole Carrigg, a switch-hitter, is second in the league in batting average, hitting .407 over 27 at-bats. Just one of Carrigg's 11 hits has gone for extra-bases, but he's posted a .484 on-base percentage and .519 slugging percentage.

Michael Boeve has excelled at the plate, reaching base at a .500 clip through 10 games. Boeve is hitting .355 and has logged seven walks to three strikeouts. In 57 games with Nebraska Omaha, Boeve hit .364 with a .491 on-base percentage.

Stat to Know ' 19

Chatham has recorded the most wild pitches in the league with 19. Pitching has been the been the Anglers' strength to this point in this season, but Chatham has consistently given away free bases ' something it can't afford to do as the offense tries to find its footing.

Last Time They Played

Y-D battered Chatham pitching in one of the last games of the 2021 regular season, defeating the Anglers 8-1 on Aug. 2. The Red Sox had five extra-base hits ' three doubles and two home runs ' as part of their offensive outburst. Despite their struggles, Chatham pitchers struck out 13 Red Sox. Adam Tulloch punched out nine batters in just 3.2 innings.

Lyle Miller-Green drove in the Anglers' only run with a solo homer in the second inning.
