Game 26 Preview: Chatham at Y-D

After a walk-off from Cooper Ingle (Clemson) gave the Anglers their second straight win over Orleans, the Anglers head to face East division leader Yarmouth-Dennis. They haven't won in back-to-back days this season, and manager Tom Holliday expects the team to string together several wins after yesterday's performance.

'Now the thing is watching how we play after a win,' Holliday said.

Probable Pitchers

Alex McFarlane (Miami) will take the mound for the Anglers. The righty last pitched at Orleans, allowing three hits in 2.0 innings. He's not pitched in over two straight innings for the Anglers this season.

Connor Markl will start for Y-D, making his fourth appearance for the team this year. He has a 1.97 ERA, striking out 14 batters in 13.2 innings. His only win came in a 4-0 win over Falmouth, when he struck out eight batters.

Chatham Players to Watch

Holliday said Ingle has been the most reliable player to get on-base for the Anglers, and that he's had the maturity to already understand what to do in the designated hitter role even though he's not '35-years-old.' He notched his 19th walk last night in between his first hit and the walk-off.

Marcus Brown (Oklahoma State) continued Ingle's play with two timely hits against the Firebirds. One came as a slow dribbler going down the right field line while the other advanced the winning score in Guy Garibay Jr. (Rice) to third base in the ninth inning.

Y-D Players to Watch

Cole Carrigg leads the Red Sox with a .313 batting average. His best performance came in a 6-6 tie to Harwich, where he recorded three hits and brought in two runs. The San Diego State senior is also second on the team with 12 RBIs.

Jonathon Long sits above Carrig with 14 RBIs, also leading the team with two home runs. He played in 50 games at Long Beach State this year, amounting 57 hits, including six homers.

Stat to Know ' 2.60

The Red Sox have the best ERA in the league, the only team under 3.00. Y-D's pitching staff has struck out 232 batters, allowing 155 hits (the least amount in the league). Jared Lyons has been Y-D's most reliable pitcher with a team-high 29 strikeouts.

Last Time They Played

The Anglers had a then-season-high three errors in their 8-1 loss to the Red Sox after entering the game with seven ' the fewest in the league.

'We've proven that we can play defense, so I can't accept that,' Holliday said about the errors.

Garibay Jr. smacked a solo home run in the third inning, but that was the only offense Chatham could find in the game. And Chris Villaman (NC State) started off strong on the mound, but Ben Peterson (Florida SouthWestern) gave up five runs in three innings.
