Five Chatham players were named Cape Cod Baseball League All-Stars on Sunday. The game will take place on July 23 at Wareham's Spillane Field.
Jake DeLeo, who leads the team with 12 RBIs, was the only starter chosen from the Anglers. DeLeo said he developed his hitting through 'old school' methods like smacking an old 18-wheeler tire with weighted gloves.
'I always had a knack for having a bat in my hand,' DeLeo said.
Caden Grice ' who's tied with DeLeo for the team lead in home runs ' and Marcus Brown ' who leads Chatham with 23 hits ' were named as reserves. In his second season with the Anglers, Grice is tied for second on the team with 11 RBIs. Brown has notched nine hits in the Anglers' past seven games and has served as the team's everyday shortstop.
Alex McFarlane and Ben Hampton were also chosen from Chatham's pitching staff. McFarlane struck out six batters in five innings against Yarmouth-Dennis in his final appearance with the Anglers. Hampton currently leads all Chatham pitchers who have thrown at least 15 innings with a 2.07 ERA.
