The Anglers gave up four hits and four runs in the eighth inning against the Firebirds on Monday, dropping their second straight game after last week's five-game win streak. Chatham now sits three points behind fourth-place Orleans in the East division, though it's still just five points away from second-place Brewster.

Probable Pitchers

Roman Kimball (Notre Dame) is expected to start for the Anglers. He struggled keeping runners off base in his last start against Wareham, walking the first batter he faced in three out of his five innings. But he still only gave up two hits and no runs.

'You have to be persistent and stay confident with your stuff,' Kimball said about his increased pitch count against the Gatemen.

Joseph Whitman will start for the Kettleers, making his first appearance for the team since arriving from the Lakeshore Chinooks in the North Woods League. He recorded a 3.05 ERA in five games with the Chinooks this summer.

Chatham Players to Watch

Guy Garibay Jr. (Rice) has continued to provide a spark for the Anglers, bringing in Chuck Ingram for the Anglers second run on Monday. He now has a team-high 18 RBIs on the season with 19 hits.

Lyle Miller-Green (Oklahoma State) won the home run hitting contest before the 2022 CCBL All-Star Game. He struggled early in the season but has recorded four RBIs in the Anglers' last five games. Miller-Green's notched five hits this season.

Cotuit Players to Watch

Tyler Johnson leads Cotuit's offense with a team-high 19 RBIs and seven home runs so far this season. He has a .264 batting average, and he's recorded three RBIs in two separate games this season.

Tommy Troy has the best batting average (.353) on Cotuit's active roster with a total of 85 at-bats. He recorded 62 hits, bringing in 23 runs at Stanford this spring.

The Anglers have struggled against the Kettleers' pitching staff, averaging less than than five hits in all three of their matchups. Chatham's struck out roughly 10 times in each of those games.

Last Time They Played

Roc Riggio (Oklahoma State) extended his hitting streak to nine games in the seventh inning with a two-RBI double for Chatham's second and third runs. But it was too late to stop the bleeding from the Anglers pitching staff, who surrendered seven runs to Cotuit in the first five innings.

The umpires then called the game due to darkness after eight innings, sealing a 7-3 Chatham loss due to a performance that reminded manager Tom Holliday of Chatham's losses at the beginning of the season.

'It's kind of a flip-flop of what we've been doing,' Holliday said about the loss. 'That kind of reminded me of what we did early (in the season).'
