Game 12 Preview: Falmouth at Chatham
Chatham dropped its second straight road game at Wareham on Friday night. Through the opening two innings, the Anglers allowed six runs and never recovered, eventually falling 8–4. Even though Chatham managed 11 total hits, just one shy of the Gatemen’s 12, it failed to execute despite loading the bases twice across the first four frames.

On Saturday night, the A’s will face Falmouth. Last time out, the Commodores lost 12–1 to Cotuit, the leaders of the Cape Cod Baseball League, and currently sit at the bottom of the West division.

Here’s everything you need to know before Chatham (3–7–1 East) takes on Falmouth (3–7–1) at Veterans Field.

Probable Starters

Gabe Davis (Oklahoma State): Davis’ lone appearance for Chatham in 2023 came in relief during a 6–2 loss to Cotuit. The OSU product notched two strikeouts in 1.2 innings pitched and conceded zero runs. Davis is coming off his freshman season in Stillwater, Okla., where he produced 40 strikeouts and a 7.92 ERA.

Braden Davis (Sam Houston State): During three innings in a 3–2 loss against Hyannis, Davis allowed one hit and tallied five strikeouts. With the BearKats, he averaged a 3.16 ERA in 22 appearances and charted 51 strikeouts.

Chatham Players to Watch

Carson Benge (Oklahoma State): By far the hottest bat in Chatham’s lineup, Benge tallied a perfect 3–3 batting line in his Anglers debut. On Friday, against Wareham, he totaled two hits, bringing his season total to eight connections through just three contests.

Aidan Meola (Oklahoma State): Meola was involved in both loaded-base situations at Spillane Field, hitting a single and walking once. While he’s struggled early on at the plate for the Anglers, he’s expected to leadoff in game 12 for Chatham and will hope to mirror his .330 batting average at OSU in 2023.

Falmouth Players to Watch

Christian Martin (Virginia Tech): In 32 at-bats in 2023, Martin has registered an efficient seven RBIs in just eight hits. In Falmouth’s most recent win over Wareham, he produced a season-high two RBIs and earned one walk.

Tab Tracy (Texas A&M): Though Tracy has never garnered more than two runs since the Commodores’ season-opening loss to Wareham, his eight hits this summer is tied for second-most on Falmouth. Tracy currently holds three RBIs and four walks.

Number To Know: 6

In honor of Chatham’s Meet The Players Luncheon, hosted by Steve West and the Chatham Athletic Association, all six new members of the Anglers’ coaching staff were formally introduced. After going 15–20–9 in the 2022 season, Chatham manager Tom Holliday fielded an entirely new set of assistant coaches, starring the likes of Marty Lees at third base, Dustin Williams at first, Brock Riley, Todd Shelton, Mike Henneman, and team trainer Julia Holland. The staff has over 100 years of combined pro and semi-pro experience at the coaching level, Holliday said at the Luncheon.

Last Time They Played

On July 22, 2022, Clemson’s Caden Grice led the Anglers to a 1–1 tie against the Commodores. The pitching staff combined for four total hits.

A Lyle Miller-Green grounder gifted Chatham its only run of the contest. The hit toward left field scored Chuck Ingram, but Falmouth was able to draw level in the eighth inning.
