Game 44 Preview: Chatham at Orleans
Chatham travels to Orleans on Wednesday to finish the 2023 season. The Anglers, who defeated Brewster 7–4 last time out, enter Eldredge Park on a three-game winning streak.

The Firebirds, who currently sit atop the Cape Cod League’s East Division, have won six of their last seven. On Tuesday, Orleans beat Yarmouth-Dennis on the road, 11–4, to clinch home field advantage through the East Finals.

Here’s everything you need to know before Chatham (14–27–2 East) plays Orleans (24–19–0 East).

Probable Starters

Maxx Yehl (West Virginia): Yehl holds a 3.58 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched. In his most recent appearance, a 4–3 loss, Yehl started against Orleans in Game 2 of a doubleheader on July 21. The lefty fanned three through the opening 3 1/3 innings.

Evan Truitt (Charleston Southern): Truitt, like Yehl, featured on the mound during Orleans’ matchup with Chatham on July 21. He allowed two earned runs and six hits in Game 2 which the Anglers won 5–4. Across 28 1/3 innings pitched, Truitt possesses a 4.76 ERA.

Chatham Players To Watch

Kaeden Kent (Texas A&M): In Tuesday’s win over Orleans, Kent went 4–4 with two RBIs. A recent recipient of Chatham’s annual Most Outstanding Player Award, the Aggie has featured in a league-high 41 total games and sports a .331 batting average.

Liam Paddack (Spokane Community College): Paddack will likely be the first arm out of Chatham's bullpen tonight. Paddack picked up his first win of the summer in Game 1 of Chatham's doubleheader against Orleans on July 21. In 19 2/3 innings pitched, he has recorded a 5.49 ERA and 17 strikeouts.

Orleans Players To Watch

Jo Oyama (California Irvine): Oyama, the East Division’s 2023 All-Star MVP, owns a .356 batting average, 17 RBIs and five home runs. Chatham held Oyama to one RBI in four-at bats in their last meeting.

Eddie Micheletti Jr. (George Washington): In Orleans’ last game against Yarmouth-Dennis, Micheletti totaled three RBIs in an 11–4 win. On July 21, during a 4–3 Firebirds victory over Chatham in Game 2 of their doubleheader, the lefty slugger went a perfect 4–4.

Number To Know: 4

In five games between Chatham and Orleans, the difference in runs is just four. Three of their contests this season have been decided by one run, including a walk-off sacrifice fly on July 21 which gave the Firebirds a 4–3 win.

Last Time They Played

Chatham last played Orleans on July 28 in a 5–4 win.

The Anglers led 2–1 after the opening inning and recorded a three-run sixth frame after Orleans knotted the game at one apiece. Offensively, Chatham utility player Kyson Donahue led the way with two home runs.

From there, Chatham weathered a late, two-score comeback attempt to clinch victory.
