Chatham has announced its coaching staff for the 2024 season. The Anglers bring in an entirely new staff under first year field manager Jeremy Sheetinger in search of reaching the postseason for the first time since 2019.
Jeremy “Sheets” Sheetinger | Manager
Sheetinger took over as Chatham manager in August and brings plenty of experience to the Anglers. In 2013, Sheetinger received his first head coaching job, taking over Spalding University, an NCAA Division III program where he led the Eagles to three straight postseasons. He then served as an associate scout for the Atlanta Braves from 2015-19 before taking over at Georgia Gwinnett college. In four seasons, he holds a 170-36 record, appearing in three NAIA World Series and winning the championship in 2021.
Eric Beattie | Pitching Coach
A former collegiate and minor league pitcher, Beattie brings knowledge of the position to Chatham. Beattie pitched at the University of Tampa for four seasons where he ranks in the top 10 all-time in innings pitched, strikeouts and wins. During his collegiate career he played in the Cape Cod League with the Bourne Braves and led the league in ERA. In 2014, Beattie was inducted into the Cape Cod League Hall of Fame. After college Beattie was drafted in the second round of the 2004 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers, spending time in the Tigers and Boston Red Sox organizations. Beattie has since served as the head coach of Strawberry Crest High School in Dover, Florida. He was also hired on the Cape as the interim manager of the Hyannis Harbor Hawks in 2022, and served as the Harbor Hawks’ manager through 2023.
“I am excited and thankful for the opportunity to coach our pitchers in Chatham this summer. I promise to work hard for our pitchers and will motivate them to compete to the best of their abilities each and every night,” Beattie said. "Cape summers are special to my family and we look forward to every player, coach, intern, volunteer, and Chatham fan we will interact with in the summer of 2024.”
Ramon Orozco | 3B Coach, Field Supervisor
Orozco spent nearly a decade at the University of San Diego, six of which came as an assistant coach. He joined the Toreros in 2007 and was promoted to an assistant role in 2010. He helped San Diego to five NCAA Regional appearances including two regional finals. Orozco primarily worked with the team’s offense, infielders and catchers and developed scouting reports along with recruiting.
“I am excited to be one of the Chatham Anglers this summer. Chatham has such a deeply rich tradition in the Cape Cod league. I look forward to working with our players to help them be the best baseball players they can be, most importantly the best people they can be this summer,” Orozco said.
Drew Guffey | 1B Coach, Asst. Field Supervisor
Guffey was a student manager for the University of Alabama for three years where he assisted the team. In 2022, he was hired as the director of player personnel at Stetson University in Florida, spending nearly two years in the position. In February, Guffey started at Out Front Hitting as a hitting instructor in Birmingham, Alabama.
“Drew is a young rockstar in this profession and we are excited to help him grow as a coach and communicator by serving on this summer’s staff,” Sheetinger said. “His work ethic and drive to get better will be infectious for our players to follow and we fully expect Drew to have an impact on the Chatham organization on and off the field.”
Jay Vincent | Chatham Clinics Coordinator
A former collegiate baseball player at The University of Pikeville, Vincent started his coaching career in 2019-20 as a graduate assistant at Lindsey Wilson College. In 2021, Vincent was hired as an assistant, and he served as the interim head coach in 2022 where he led the Blue Raiders to a 31-14 record while earning a bid to the NAIA tournament. For the past two seasons with Lindsey Wilson, Vincent has served as an assistant coach.
“Energy and passion were priorities for this staff and Jay fits the bill to a tee. His eagerness to grow and learn make him a perfect fit for us in Chatham along with his desire to create positive change wherever he lands,” Sheetinger said.
Collin Wilber | Bullpen Coach
Ever since his collegiate career at Christopher Newport University from 2012-16, Wilber has been involved in coaching. In 2018, he was an assistant at Concordia University before moving on to become the Director of Player Development at Inspiration Academy. After nearly three years there, he was a development coach with the Pittsburgh Pirates. In September 2023, Wilber became an assistant coach at Sacramento City College where he’s spent the last seven months.
“Widely regarded as one of the top catching minds in our profession, Collin’s appointment to our staff gives us an incredible resource and developer for our catching corps. Coupled with coach Beattie, we feel very confident about the pitching and catching sides of the baseball with Collin bringing serious value and perspective to our bullpen this summer,” Sheetinger said.
