Chatham’s home game Sunday night against Hyannis has been canceled due to rain in the area. The contest had previously been moved from July 24 because of heavy fog at Veterans Field. It will now be pushed back to Wednesday, July 31.
The Anglers were scheduled to have only half of their original All-Star break off, but now get back the full two days off. Five players represented the A’s in the CCBL All-Star Game Saturday — shortstop Aiva Arquette, right fielder Ashton Larson (LSU), catcher Ike Irish (Auburn), right-handed pitcher Tanner Franklin (Tennessee) and left-handed pitcher Gabe Van Emon (UConn). Arquette and Larson combined for two RBIs and three hits in the game, which the West won 9-8 over the East, while Van Emon tossed 1.2 innings of one-hit baseball.
Sunday’s game was supposed to feature the No. 2 seed of the East in Chatham and the No. 3 seed in the West in Hyannis. The Anglers are 1-2 versus the Harbor Hawks this summer, though they’ve been shut out in each of their two losses. The A’s lone win over Hyannis came on June 26, which ended in the fifth inning due to fog and clinched a 5-2 Chatham victory.
The A’s are now scheduled to play seven games in as many days starting on Monday to finish out the 2024 regular season. Chatham sits at second place in the East Division, and is 4.5 games into a playoff spot.
