Chatham announces initial 2025 roster
CHATHAM, M.A. — The Chatham Anglers have released the team’s initial 2025 roster, which features 41 players from 17 states and Canada who represent 24 different colleges and universities. The roster will continuously update throughout the season.

Four players return from Chatham’s 2024 roster, which qualified for the Cape Cod Baseball League Playoffs for the first time since 2019. LSU outfielder Ashton Larson — who recieved the team’s Thurman Munson Most Outstanding Position Player Award last summer — returns, along with Texas outfielder Will Gasparino, Georgia catcher Daniel Jackson and Oklahoma pitcher Cam Johnson. Dennis Cook enters his first season as Chatham’s manager after serving as pitching coach from 2018-22.

2025 Roster | 2025 Schedule

Larson highlights Chatham’s returnees after he hit .316 with 18 RBIs and a home run last summer. Gasparino, who played 10 games with the A’s in 2024, mashed 11 home runs and slugged .644 in Texas’ first 34 games. Jackson and Johnson each made four appearances for the A’s last summer.

Chatham’s 18 position players include some of the top hitters in college baseball. Gasparino, Jackson, North Carolina infielder Gavin Gallaher, NC State outfielder Josh Hogue and Mississippi State infielder Ace Reese all hit at least eight home runs in the first two months of the college season. UCLA infielder Roman Martin owned a .323 average at the two-month mark while Texas infielder Ethan Mendoza hit .363 with four home runs in that same span.

TCU freshman Sawyer Strosnider is set to don the Angler uniform after one of the most dominant debut seasons in the country. The Texas native led all Big 12 freshmen and ranked fourth in the conference with a .397 batting average in his first 33 collegiate games. He added eight home runs, 40 RBIs and a team-high .727 slugging percentage in that span.

Florida State left-hander Wes Mendes, Baylor lefty Ethan Calder and UNC Wilmington righty Trace Baker headline Chatham’s staff of 23 pitchers. Mendes, who transferred to FSU from Ole Miss ahead of the 2025 season, pitched to a 3.83 ERA with 59 strikeouts over his first 44.2 innings in Tallahassee. Calder, an All-Big 12 performer in 2024, became a full-time starter in 2025 and compiled 44 punchouts in his first 46 innings with Baylor. Baker was an All-CAA Tournament Team selection before he emerged as one of the UNCW’s top arms in 2025. In his first 39 innings as a junior, the right-hander pitched to a 1.83 ERA, in large part thanks to a 29-inning stretch between February 28 and April 11 where he allowed just four earned runs.

Fifteen of Chatham’s players come from the SEC, widely regarded as college baseball’s best conference. Larson and former top-ranked catcher recruit Cade Arrambide come from LSU, while Gasparino and Mendoza join Chatham after their season at Texas. The Anglers’ roster also features three players from Auburn, three from Oklahoma, two from Mississippi State, two from Georgia and two from defending national champion Tennessee.

The Anglers enter 2025 after a 20-20 season where they finished second in the Cape League’s East Division. The team qualified for the postseason for the first time since 2019, but fell to Harwich in the one-game Divisional Round.

Chatham begins its 2025 season at Veterans Field against Falmouth on June 14 at 7 p.m. Each of the team’s 40 games will be broadcast live on the Cape Cod Baseball Network. The Anglers Extra Pregame Show begins coverage 20 minutes before first pitch.

Chatham’s Cape Cod Baseball League team dates to 1923, and has been known as the Anglers since 2010. The Cape Cod Baseball league began its modern era in 1963, but traces its roots to 1885.
