A Cape League All-Star in 2007, Couture dominated opposing hitters in 30 relief innings with a 0.90 ERA in 15 appearances. The most valuable arm out of the bullpen for Chatham, Couture was both a reliever and a starter for USC in 2008. He started 14 of his 18 games, totaling 84.1 innings and a 4.27 ERA. The sophomore continues to amaze teammates and baffle opposing hitters with an impressive changeup that has seemingly unpredictable drop. A combination of great control and increasing experience netted Couture 65 strikeouts to only 19 free passes, an even better walks-to-strikeout ratio than his freshman season of 16 to 45. Coutures Coronado High School team won the 2006 CIF San Diego Section Division IV Championship with Kevin beating the top-seeded opponent with 10 Ks.
