CAA IN MEMORIAM 2019
VIRGINIA (GINNY) KANGAS
Virginia (Ginny) Kangas, a long-time, integral member of the Chatham Anglers
Organization passed away after a brief illness in November, 2018. Ginny was
a part of our Angler family for nearly 30 years, serving as a Board member for
much of that tenure, including several years as our Vice-President. Ginny and her
daughter Jen were a player housing fixture, hosting more than 50 players during
their 25+ years as a host family. Ginny was always a strong advocate for the youth
of Chatham, serving many years as our liaison to the local schools, specifically
as it related to implementing our scholarship programs and in coordinating our
annual player school visits. Ginny’s focus on youth was again highlighted when
as a member of the Chatham Rotary she was a driving force helping to establish
the annual Rotary contribution to our Organization that we use to help fund our
summer youth baseball Clinic. Ginny had many other interests, including teaching,
real estate, sewing, traveling, and most importantly her family, and she gave the
same passion to them that she gave to our Organization. Ginny’s wisdom, sense of
humor, candor, and can do attitude will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate
enough to have known her over the years.
