                                    ROB BONO PITCHING COACH
Rob Bono returns to the Anglers for his fourth season and his third as the Anglers pitching coach. He has just completed his fifth year
as a student assistant coach at Central Connecticut State University. He was selected in the 11th round of the 2007 MLB draft and
signed by the Houston Astros out of high school. A 2009 All-Star in the South Atlantic League, he won 10 games and posted a 3.10
ERA with 19 walks in 149 innings. In 2010, Bono was traded to the Florida Marlins, for Major League closer Matt Lindstrom, where
he reached the Double A level. During Bono’s five-year tenure in professional baseball he pitched under three former major leaguers,
including Tom Lawless, Ron Hassey and Bill Buckner.
Prior to signing a professional contract, Bono played baseball and basketball at Waterford (CT) High School. He earned numerous
accolades for baseball in high school including being named a 2007 High School All-American, three-time New Haven Register All-
State, and 2007 New London Day Player of the Year and the Norwich Bulletin co-player of the year. He shared the award with former
Angler and current New York Mets All-Star, Matt Harvey. Bono’s high school success earned him a scholarship offer to the University
of Connecticut, which he turned down in favor of becoming a professional baseball player.
The summer prior to his senior year of high school, Rob was selected to play for the national American Legion team in the Tournament
of Stars in Joplin, MO. He also played for the Northeast team in the East Coast Professional Showcase in Wilmington, NC. Prior to high
school, Rob participated in back-to-back Babe Ruth World Series as a 13 and 14-year-old representing Waterford.
